Throat Chakra Basics

Please remember there are many different ways and things to do to activate and balance your chakras. This is very basic information and I welcome more input here. I am learning, too! Please give yourself the opportunity to investigate online, or find a book, as this information here is very, very basic. But please don't be afraid of this! This could be invaluable to your physical and spiritual well-being.

This image was made with the intention to help your Throat Chakra, which is located at the throat, neck and shoulders. This is the first of the chakras traveling up your spine that deal with spiritual aspects of your person.

It could be orange light, an orange flower or lotus, this orange image, or whatever you come up with, just get the orange color there.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) has everything to do with finding the truth, being authentic, being creative, speaking your truth with kindness, listening... Physically, it governs the throat, thyroid, neck, mouth, tongue and other anatomical components in the neck region. Imbalances here show up as negative thought patterns, difficulties with saying no, self doubt, pain in the area, thyroid trouble...

This is one way of working and maintaining balance with your chakras, by closing your eyes, taking deep breaths in a relaxed, meditative state, and imagining specific colors placed over or in your body along the specific main chakras.Whether you imagine blue light, blue swirling vortex, put the blue color over the Throat Chakra while taking deep breaths, for as long as you feel you can or is necessary. Of course this depends on your time or environment constraints.

There are two more main chakras.

Heart Chakra Basics

Heart Chakra

This image was made with the intention to help your heart chakra, which is located at the center of the chest, including heart, lungs, breasts, thymus gland. Up to this point, the three chakras (Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus) govern the physical aspects of your person. The three chakras above the Heart Chakra (Throat, Brow, and Crown) deal with spiritual aspects of your person. The Heart Chakra connects the three above with the three below.

Heart Chakra (Anahata) has everything to do with love, compassion, joy, forgiveness, and acceptance, and thus the affirmation, "I love." Imbalances here show up as unresolved grief, holding grievances, jealousy, anger, negativity, betrayal, and hatred.

This is one way of working and maintaining balance with your chakras, by closing your eyes, taking deep breaths and imagining specific colors placed over or in your body along the specific main chakras.Whether you imagine a green light, a green whirligig, a green flower, put the green over your Heart Chakra while taking deep breaths, for as long as you feel you can. Solar Plexus Chakra Basics

This image was made with the intention to help your Solar Plexus Chakra, located above the navel over your solar plexus up to the breastbone. So imagine the color yellow over this area extending through your body to your back. It could be yellow light, a yellow flower or lotus, this yellow image, or whatever you come up with, just get the yellow color there.

Solar plexus or third chakra (
Manipura) has everything to do with the perception of who you are, your personal power, being confident, responsible, reliable, your self-esteem, the power of transformation, inertia into action and movement, and thus the affirmation, "I do." Imbalances here show up as metabolism and digestion difficulties, emotional outbursts, feeling stressed out, being passive and inactive, having low self-esteem, difficulty making decisions, and having anger or control issues.

It is important to realize that the use of color and breath meditation are not the only ways to activate and balance your chakras. Activities that involve your senses or using things in your environment can also help, especially when used with your INTENTION to open and balance your chakras. Try wearing a yellow shirt or blouse, burning a yellow candle (this chakra is associated with the element of fire), wearing yellow earrings, carrying golden tigereye. Investigate other solar plexus chakra activities, specific yoga poses, or chants (RAM). Your intention is key here, as it is with so many other things. Intend to balance your chakras, specifically here, burn that yellow candle for instance, with the intention of balancing or activating your Solar Plexus Chakra, and it will be so.

Sacral Chakra Basics

This image was made with the intention to help your sacral chakra, located above the pubic bone and below your navel. So imagine the color orange over this area extending through your body to your back. It could be orange light, an orange flower or lotus, this orange image, or whatever you come up with, just get the orange color there.

Sacral chakra (
Svadhisthana) has everything to do with being passionate, pleasure, feeling emotions, creativity, sensuality, and being in the moment, and thus the affirmation, "I feel." Imbalances here show up as fear of changes, sexual dysfunctions, bladder, kidney or bowel problems, disconnecting, as with addictions, or depression and feeling stuck.

It is important to realize that the use of color and meditation are not the only ways to activate and balance your chakras. Activities that involve your senses or using things in your environment can also help, especially when used with your intention to open and balance your chakras. The list is long, including crystals and stones, essential oils, candle therapy, yoga, dance, art, pendulums, water, earthing, chanting, sound... My goal here is to get you to think about your chakras, and start your own investigations. Whether you believe it or not, you embody this energy system, for lack of better words at the moment. This magic is in you, and could be affecting you more than you think! And you don't have to be a yoga guru to help yourself, you just have to be an expert on YOU.

Pay Attention To Your Chakras

Pay Attention To Your Chakras---huh???

This is just a basic overview, because I am not an expert, but my point in saying this is that anyone can do this, and benefit from doing this type of thing.

Afterall, we don't have to go running to the doctor all the time. If you do that enough, you will end up worse than what you started sometimes. OF COURSE, there is a time and place for everything, and modern medicine has it's place.

Out of a place of frugality is how I came to discover some of these things I believe in. The idea that there may be something I could do for myself that did not require money is a great motivator. The world is so busy, and there is a bombardment of advertising for solutions to all of life's problems. Just watch television for an hour, cued into the ads, and you will see what I mean. Take this, do this, eat this, don't eat that.

One of the things that has become second nature to me is paying attention to my SELF. Not obsessing, just noticing what was going on. I am not the picture of health, I am not into yoga, but that is not required. Start where you are, incorporate the healthy lifestyles that you choose, make your own decisions.

Energy needs to flow through your body. Those chakras need to be unblocked, opened, freely spinning in order for good health, happiness, joyfulness, and all the great things about living to be present in your life. At least that is what I've read. This idea of energy flowing makes me think of pipes, and I'm not sure if it is really like this, but this is how I visualize it. The pipes are all connected, going up and down your spine, out to all your organs, your limbs, connecting down to the earth and up and out to the sky and universe. The chakras in this set up are Seven Huge Colorful Connectors that run from the base of your spine to the top of your head. At any point in this pipe system, anything can enter in, anything can exit or leak out. What affects one spot in this system, affects the whole system. The idea is to keep this whole system intact as best you can, unclogged, without too many leaks, without too many external intrusions...so that we remain WHOLE. Maybe you can think of another analogy, or visualize it a different way, and I would love to hear about it. I am always learning. Maybe do a search on google "creative visualizations of chakras" or something similar. Start learning about this!

Anything can interfere with this system, our energy system, whether it is something you ate or drank, a fight you witnessed, something horrible on tv, past events in your life that were abusive... As well, anything can positively affect this system, our energy system, whether it is a beautiful sunset, a loving interaction with someone in your life, a good phone conversation, a past event in your life that was beautiful, or caring. You get the idea, right? We don't live in bubbles, and our environment and the people around us have a great impact on our SELVES.

When you start thinking this way, in terms of you being an individual with an energy system all of your own, the next intuitive step is to pay attention to it. Even if you have a horrible past, just start now to pay attention to your own system. There may be a lot that is wrong with it, but if you don't pay attention, things will not ever get better. Get back to yourSELF. In paying attention, there is honor, you are honoring yourself. It's free to do this. It won't harm you to do this, I promise.

There are also online quizzes you can do to find out which chakras are clogged or out of balance, or perhaps hyperactive. I tend to shy away from doing these, as I assume ALL of my chakras are out of whack from 55 years of living and not paying attention.

So how do you do this? How do you pay attention to your chakras, your energy system? Through out the day, just visualize your energy system in whatever creative form you decide. Mine is colorful pipes. No matter what is happening during your day, every chance you get, try to visualize or imagine what is going on inside with you. Take five seconds or more to note how you feel, what sensations you have in your body, how your mood is. Is there a pain somewhere, or itchy/scratchy/uncomfortable feeling somewhere? Pay attention to that for just a moment, to it's location, it's intensity, it's quality. Then send that spot some love. I mean, visualize that your system is running perfectly fine. For me, I visualize my colorful pipes, from red at the base of my spine, moving to orange at the spot below my navel, yellow at the solar plexus above the navel, green mid chest, blue at throat, purple at my brow, to clear at the top of my head. Typing that out, took longer than the whole visualization does. Just imagine, or put the thought in your mind, that there are no problems within, all the energy is flowing through you, from toe to head, you're like a perfect rainbow. Visualize it, intend for it to be so, and it is.
Chakra Earrings

Later, you can do some research for yourself. What chakra is associated with that particular area of the body? Ask questions, and learn. One of the things that I have learned is that chakras respond to color, whether you're wearing the color, or seeing the color, or visualizing the color. Chakras also respond to sound, and there are specific frequencies that are supposed to affect (open, balance, unclog) each chakra. (visit youtube and search on "chakra sounds" and find some you like.) Certain smells can have an impact on your chakras, and essential oils are especially tuned into this. Decide one modality that you are drawn to, or something that is easy to incorporate into your life. Just decide to do something to help your self.

I have a board on pinterest  about using color for healing, and I would love for you to connect with me there. My online shop is all about wearing your healing, using color and stones and symbols for healing chakra imbalances, but I am just one of many healing jewelry-makers. Please try to incorporate something intentionally to help your energy flow! Even if it is intentionally picking out a specific color shirt for the day!

Specific Chakra Earrings
It's possible, maybe even highly likely, that you're physically a mess. You have pains everywhere, medical issues and diagnoses. Start somewhere, is my point. Continue with whatever medical plan you have (medications, surgery, therapy), as I am not suggesting that paying attention to your chakras will solve all your problems. What I am suggesting is that paying attention will help.

My next blog article will be about my own short breathing meditation that I use to help with chakra balancing, with particular emphasis on the root chakra. I hope you are able to glean some information from this article, and I would love some feedback and comments! Please stay connected!

Chakras Overview: What is a chakra, anyway?

Please note: There are numerous online valid resources for information about the chakras (613,000 results with a search on google.com for "basic overview of chakras." I encourage you to question and search as you see fit. This is not an indepth description, but I thought it might be useful to people who follow this blog for me to briefly explain about the chakras. I am not trying to rewrite the book. I will list a few key articles at the end of this post.
I plan on making this a series, as I do my own chakra work, including different tips and techniques as I go along. Please feel free to share about your own discoveries, what helps, what doesn't, and maybe we can all learn.

The word chakra means disc or wheel (Sanskrit, I believe). The idea is that there are seven discs of energy, seven main chakras, that align along the spine, from the base of your spine to the top of the head. This energy is the life spirit, life energy, or prana. Prana follows along meridians through the body (but that may be another discussion). Chakras can be envisioned as swirling wheels of energy at those different spots along the spine and body.

There are seven main chakras, and reportedly hundreds of chakras along the meridians on the human body. They have corresponding energies, and each are associated with specific colors, sounds, vibrations. (If you want, you can follow my Color Therapy Board on Pinterest.) Each chakra directs this life energy to specific parts of your body and being, including emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects, and each chakra interacts with the world around you.

The reason the chakras are significant, is that the life energy in your body, your prana, needs to move and flow, in order for the whole of your body or self to function properly. Prana can get blocked at various levels, at these chakras, because of all kinds of influences. When your chakras are not functioning properly, there are blockages, energy is not flowing freely, the chakras are not balanced, and problems arise because of these blockages and imbalances. A blockage in one chakra can cause another chakra to overwork. When your chakras are open, unblocked, and balanced, then there is health and freely flowing life energy, in all aspects of self, your body, your being, including emotional, mental, physical and spiritual.

What causes blockages of prana? What causes the chakras to be blocked? The simple answer is just about anything. Remember, that chakras on your body interact with the world around you. Toxins in our environment, in the air we breathe, in the water we drink, in the food we eat, anything you put into your body; physical, emotional, spiritual damages or injuries, anything that happens to your self; overusing or over-doing in one aspect of our lives... anything that causes a disturbance in our daily lives. The importance in all of this is in achieving balance. The importance is in your intent to achieve a balance, your intent to pay attention to all the things going on with your self, to become aware of, and pay attention to, your chakras and energy system, and applying your attention to your inner self and prana.

Chakra names, locations, corresponding emotional, mental, and spiritual influences

The next blog post will focus on how to pay attention to your chakras, tests for chakra health, and depending on length, how to positively influence your chakras.
